Patients will meet with a travel medicine specialist who is knowledgeable about current health risks worldwide and who will promote safe and healthy travels by offering counseling, recommendations, vaccinations, prescriptions and, if needed, a referral to another expert for complex medical conditions. Travel medicine doctors provide vaccinations appropriate to the destination, as well as destination-specific water and food hygiene information that will help the traveler avoid health risks.
Before your trip
Schedule an appointment for a pretravel consultation with the travel medicine clinic at Hannibal Regional Medical Group well before you depart so the travel medicine specialist can help you prepare. Ideally, this appointment would occur as soon as travel plans are established, preferably 45 days before departure. When requesting an appointment for pretravel consultation, you will be sent a traveler history form to fill out and return. The information will provide the travel medicine specialist with details of your trip including the places you plan to travel and detailed health history information. Please note, we recommend a consultation be scheduled a minimum of 45 days in advance (earlier is even better) as the protective benefits of vaccination are negated if the vaccines are not administered in a timely manner.
