Hospitalists are board certified physicians, specializing in internal medicine, who provide care for hospitalized patients. Many Primary Care Physicians do not see patients in the hospital. Instead, they refer their patients to the Hospitalist service. The Hospitalists are dedicated to caring for inpatients and leading the medical team that cares for them in the hospital. This results in their immediate availability for patient needs and to be on site to coordinate, consult and facilitate communication with the team and consulting physicians with the patient and their family.

How Does Care from a Hospitalist Work?

After a visit to your doctor or emergency department, your condition may require a stay in the hospital. From admission through discharge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Hospitalst team will coordinate your care. They will remain in close contact with your primary care physician so that he or she is informed of your admission, hospital course and subsequent discharge.  Their objective is to make your stay as comfortable and successful as possible.
