The Heart of Hannibal for 30 Years

Thursday, July 29 marks the day that Richard Valuck, MD, will have been practicing invasive cardiology in Hannibal, Missouri for 30 years. There were two things that led him and his wife Jenny back to the community in July of 1991. Dr. Valuck grew up in Kirksville and Jenny is a native of Hannibal, so they knew they wanted to be close to family and friends. Dr. Valuck was also excited about the opportunity to partner with Hannibal Regional Hospital and launch the first cardiology service line in the area. This new service line included a cardiac catheterization lab which would provide Hannibal and surrounding areas with the most advanced technology in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. In the fall of 1991 Dr. Valuck became the first Invasive Cardiologist to perform a cardiac catheterization in Northeast Missouri.

Hannibal Regional Celebrates Breastfeeding Month

The month of August is recognized in Missouri as Breastfeeding Month and the theme for this year’s celebration is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility,” highlighting how breastfeeding significantly improves the health and wellbeing of infants, children and their mothers. Hannibal Regional is planning to celebrate local breastfeeding moms and babies at their support group meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays during the month of August.

Thanks to Registered Dietitian Kristy Taylor and the Weight Management Program at Hannibal Regional, Russell McCoy has lost a lot of weight without having to go on a diet. Russell has struggled with his weight for as long as he can remember. Every few years he would make up his mind to lose weight and commit to trying a new diet plan. Whatever diet plan he chose to follow, he was always successful at losing weight. “In addition to the weight loss, dieting made me feel better mentally and physically. However, as soon as I would stop following the recommended diet plan, I would put all the weight right back on.”

In 2016 Amy Lakenburger began looking for OB/GYN care because she and her husband wanted to expand their family. Missouri Pediatricians Speak out to Curb in Child COVID-19 Cases

Today, Missouri pediatricians teamed up with Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) to launch a campaign that aims to protect kids from COVID-19 by increasing adult vaccinations throughout the state. The physicians are sounding the alarm as pediatric COVID cases continue to surge throughout Missouri and much of the country. According to the CDC, unvaccinated adults and teens put children who are ineligible to receive the vaccine (those 12 and under) at a greater risk of contracting the virus.
